We all would probably balk at the idea that fire was cold, or water was dry. After all, it seems to be completely out of touch with reality. This is basically what the Jewish readers of Paul’s letter to the Roman church may have been thinking. He has challenged the very foundation of their understanding about the basis of righteousness. You can almost hear them say, “Okay Paul, prove it. Give us an example.”
As we continue our series in Romans, Paul points back to the Old Testament to support the claims of the gospel and reveals that God has always been at work, including in the life of a very familiar figure to his Jewish readers.
